During a particularly stressful season of my life my 3 year old friend, George, was praying for me and his words brought me a whole new revelation of what rest looks like; he said “God, please help Joy to feel comfy in her heart”.

Increasingly I am recognising that one of the hallmarks of true rest is not the absence of activity but an awareness of Father God’s presence as we go about our activity.

Rest is “feeling comfy in my heart” and I am experiencing more of this as I learn to align my thoughts with heaven.

Philippians 4 v shows us how to do this:

Whatever is true whatever is noble whatever is right, whatever is pure,whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. If anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things ........and the God of peace will be with you.

As we train our minds to think like this we will become more aware of His presence and where His presence is the anxiety and fears that rob our rest can't exist!

My recipe for rest is choosing to trust in God’s perfect and unceasing love for me rather than thinking real rest will only come when my circumstances change or my activities cease.
