The Great Exchange That Happened On The Cross. By Steve Backlund
1. Jesus was punished that we might be forgiven.
Jesus took the punishment we deserved because of our sin, and offers the constant forgiveness He deserved because of his sinless life. We receive this by grace through faith. When we do, the Father sees us in the same way He saw Jesus when He was on earth. This is good news.
"The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him" (Isaiah 53:5). Here is the first exchange.
If Jesus had not been punished with our punishment, we could never have peace with God. Colossians 1:19-22 gives us greater insight on this.
“For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.”
Wow, this is good news!
